Aug 17th, 2009 | By buddy1 | Category: Cancer & Oncology, Health Tips, Inspiration, Pain Management

It is necessary to give some love, understanding, support and compassion to your family members or friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. The American cancer Society recommends that you should listen attentively to what the patient has to say, it is necessary that you are supportive enough to the situation, and you should always be honest.

Here are the following suggestions given for you to do:

  • It is necessary for you to be honest at all times. Admit that you don’t know what to tell the person, however you should let your family member or your friend know that you care for them that much and you are always thinking of them.
  • You may also show them compassion with regards to the diagnosis given.
  • You may as well ask them if they are ready to handle everything and if they are able to live on with it.
  • Listen to what they have to say, they would appreciate to have someone listen to them and converse with them.
  • Make an attempt to offer them your personal assistance when they need it.
  • Even if you are not agreeable with what the patient think of his or her disease, you should respect on how the patient wants to be treated.
  • Refrain from giving excessive advice or giving your own judgement regarding the situation, they will not like the idea of you being judgmental.
